♥358♥ Dreamcasting & Recasting
This is for a Dreamcasting/Recasting challenge at landofart (Go, go Team Steampunk!). There will be some **SPOILERS** involved if you are unfamiliar with the books involved.

You've been warned.

Dreamcasting :: The Forest of Hands & Teeth
Recasting :: The Queen of the Damned

The Forest of Hands & Teeth

For this I just cast Young Mary as sort of a *bonus* character.

Young Mary is played by Marina Lambrini Diamandis.

When we meet Mary, she's just living her life in this little village surrounded by fences to keep out the undead. She's told her whole life that the village is the last remaining bit of humanity left in the world, but Mary always dreams of more. She dreams of seeing the ocean and finding out what is on the other side of every hill. When she catches sight of a girl in a puffy vest from outside the fences, she knows that there's more to life than what the Sisterhood tells them. I wish we had gotten to see more of her development, but the second two books of the series jump ahead to when she's an adult. She's also only at the fringes of those stories.

The Dead-Tossed Waves & The Dark & Hollow Places

These two share the same characters with a few additions and subtractions here and there. This is the main point of my dreamcasting.

Gabry and Annah are both played by Mia Wasikowska.

Elias is played by Ryan Gosling.

Catcher is played by Kellan Lutz.

Gabry was raised by Mary in the safety of the village while Annah had been left to fend for herself along with Elias from a very, very early age. Gabry was raised in relative safety and Annah is badly scarred inside and out from her years trying to scrape out an existence. Gabry spent most of her life in ignorance of her sister, and Annah always knew what was missing and blamed herself for their separation.

Elias was from the same village as Gabry and Annah, and also blames himself for Gabry's loss. He joins up with the Recruiters to gain food/shelter for Annah, and then is with a group called the Soulers when he meets Gabry and Catcher. The Soulers believe that becoming Unconsecrated/Mudo is a form of resurrection/eternal life.

Catcher is Gabry's best friend's brother. She has a crush on him at the beginning of book 2. He gets bitten, but he never turns. He is one of the few people who are immune to the bite. He feels a bit feverish and the Unconsecrated/Mudo (zombies) look upon him as one of them. He fears interacting with Gabry (and then Annah), because he doesn't know if he is capable of passing the infection on to them. He is used by a group of corrupt soldiers in book #3 to forage for food and supplies in the overrun city. They hold Annah, Gabry and Elias over his head to make him obey them.

For this I recast The Queen of the Damned. I added Lestat's mother Gabrielle back in since she was in the book. I was displeased with the combo of the two books that became The Queen of the Damned. It would have been better served as two movies. Too much was lost and changed that it was a disservice to the characters AND the fans. /soapbox

played by Thandie Newton.

played by Christina Hendricks. Should have been a redhead and should not have been as old. She'd also play Mekare, because that was another thing missing from the movie. The backstory of the birth of vampires should have had screentime.

played by Claudia Black. She was Pandora, but I think she was miscast. Gabrielle is a great character.

played by Jason Behr. Because yes.

played by Karen Gillan. Jesse has red hair. That whole family has red hair. The end.

played by Francois Arnaud.

In the IWTV movie, I didn't. >.> I mean, come on, it's Tom Cruise. It's one of his better roles, yeah, but it's still Tom Cruise. >.>

Plus, Brad Pitt was so much better to look at. :)

Well, yes, but I take issue with that movie as well.

I am more looking at it from the BOOK perspective than comparing the two movies.

Louis is a whiny bitch.
Jewel: ActorTaylorKhonest_illusion on November 3rd, 2011 04:38 am (UTC)
I honestly don't even remember the books anymore. XD
Wilfamywillow_lives on November 3rd, 2011 04:41 am (UTC)
A very whiny bitch. You are making me want to break out my Anne Rice books. The Vampire series and then the witches!

Okay, while I agree that I didn't like the combo of two books for QOTD, I don't get your whole thing with the red hair Jesse and Maharet...they had red hair in the movie. Maybe not light red hair, but they still had red hair. I thought it was pretty...

I also didn't like that they made Lestat Jesse's sire. I agree it should have been two movies so they could have been more true to the books. But nothing is true to the books anymore (Vampire Diaries and True Blood I'm looking at you!).

And Brad Pitt was the best Louis. *grin* Maybe simply because I found him pretty. Actually, when TVL was cast I was pissed. I thought Cruise would totally mess it up, but I thought he did an excellent job. While I enjoyed the candy that was Orlando in QOTD, I felt Cruise portrayed him a lot better.

I think it's time to reread that series. After I'm through with rereading the Anita Blake series. I am almost done with that one. Although the Hunger Games was just recommended to me.

PS--you know you totally love me...even though I posted QOTD gifs. Right?? I love your picspams, btw. I got so wrapped up talking books that I forgot the original reason I was going to comment. :)

I think those two are pretty together, but I would have rather seen them in another movie entirely. The one thing I would have kept would be *icon*
Wilfamy: True Blood - Jason buttwillow_lives on November 3rd, 2011 04:40 am (UTC)
Aww, you're using my icon. I was looking for QOTD icons in my user pics but I dont' have any. I have made some for fandom 365 but never uploaded them. <3

Orlando? You mean Stuart Townsend?

In my head, I see their hair as too dark so I remember it as brown/black instead of red. I want RED RED.

Hunger Games is amazing.
Wilfamy: Stock - angel framewillow_lives on November 3rd, 2011 04:37 am (UTC)
yes, I meant Stewart...I'm so TIRED. Blah. Stewart is YUMMY. Not to say Orlando isn't. LOL I need sleep.

I might pick up the first book and check it out. I think I only have four more Anita books but I've been blowing through them.

But nothing is true to the books anymore (Vampire Diaries and True Blood I'm looking at you!).

LOL. Jim Butcher once said that the True Blood t.v. series is basically all the stuff Sookie had no idea was happening. =p

Orlando didn't play Lestat in QOTD! Stuart Townsend did! ;) As much as it pains me to admit it, Tom Cruise definitely did a better job. I just thought Stuart was prettier to look at. Haha.

I know, I am just tired. I blame my hospital switching from paper charting to computer charting. It has my brain fried. I can't spell, I can't speak, my thoughts are muddy. But Orlando is cute too. lol
Morganfaeriesfolly on November 3rd, 2011 04:38 am (UTC)
Also Lena Olin was too old. >:\
Kaycalin_durus on November 3rd, 2011 07:12 am (UTC)
I loved seeing into your mind (so to speak) for the QOTD casting! Good job bb
Morgan: QotD | it's good to be the queenfaeriesfolly on November 3rd, 2011 07:48 pm (UTC)
Thanks ;) I'd watch it. haha.

Ignoring your Lestat recast because nom nom Stuart Townsend.
But <333333333333 Christina Hendricks as Maharet!
Morganfaeriesfolly on February 7th, 2012 12:11 pm (UTC)
Lol. I enjoy Stuart Townsend as much as the next girl (even though he was even hotter as Dorian Grey). haha. But yeah Christina ftw. :D
Nikki: Stock - Fangirl *FLAIL*sucksucksmile on February 7th, 2012 04:09 pm (UTC)
I luuuuuurved him as Dorian Grey.
